What's Expected For
Journeymen Pruners

Upon successful completion of the two-year training program and demonstration of the knowledge and skill of an effective pruner, Trainees will be recognized by the Guild as Journeymen Pruners (JPs).

 

JPS ARE EXPECTED TO: 

 

#1: Develop and deliver at least one PG outreach educational activity to the public and/or to MMGs outside of the Guild each MMG year.  
Examples include:

  • Live class or workshop (UCCE permitting)

  • Zoom lecture

  • How-to video on MMG YouTube Channel

  • Leaflet or Row-by-Row article

  • Creation or curation of public website content,

  • All may be produced and delivered with a JP buddy.  

 

#2: Provide a minimum of 16 hours of operations and/or administrative support for the Guild each fiscal year.

Some examples are:

  • Steering Committee

  • Budget and Honoraria Manager

  • Garden Coordinator

  • PG Calendar Developer

  • Lecture Host

  • Workshop Coordinator

  • Registrar

  • Maintainer of PG’s CT

  • Row by Row Writer

  • Board Report Preparer. 

 

#3: Mentor first- and second-year Trainees in HO classes. 

JPs must mentor at least 6 hands-On sessions per PG year. They are also expected to attend at least one Advanced Training opportunity during each PG year. 

 

#4: State your intentions.

Submit by July 31 of each PG year a statement identifying the outreach activities and the operational and/or administrative activities in which the JP intends to engage during the remainder of the year. 

 

EXPECTATIONS OF EMERITUS JPs

 

JPs who successfully met the above JP expectations for three years will advance to Emeritus JP status.

  • Emeritus JPs are encouraged to participate in all activities in #1-3 above.

  • Emeritus JPs are only expected to fulfill the public outreach requirement (“#1,” above), and to submit a statement by July 31 identifying their intended outreach activity, operational and/or administrative activities
